Front-of-House Manager

A front-of-house manager is a theatrical facilities management and operations professional. Generating revenue is also one of his/her most important duties.

Box Office Manager

Administration/Management

The box office manager is responsible for controlling all aspects of ticket sales for the theatre. Also responds to customer complaints and deals with any issues that arise at the ticket counter.

Producer

Administration/Management

The producer decides what productions will be staged by a particular theatre. In addition, the producer aims to make enough profit to finance the run of the show, pay the performers and production staff, satisfy stakeholders' interests, and make their own income.

Director

Artistic Development

The director is responsible for the overall artistic vision of the production. They work with actors, designers, and crew to bring the script to life on stage.

Dramaturge

Artistic Development

The dramaturge's contribution is to categorize and discuss the various types and kinds of plays. Despite occasional intimate connection with all aspects of play selection, production, and performance, the dramaturge remains independent.

Choreographer

Artistic Development

The choreographer creates and teaches dance movements for theatrical productions. They work closely with the director to ensure movement enhances the storytelling.

Concessions Staff

Front of House

The concessions staff sells concessions including soft drinks and food items to patrons. They clean the concession stands and count revenues as assigned by the supervisor.

Ticket Takers

Front of House

The ticket takers' main responsibility is to ensure that no one is admitted to an event without a ticket. After everyone is admitted, ticket takers must count the tickets and turn in a tally sheet to the box office manager.

Ushers

Front of House

Ushers tell patrons where to find telephones, restrooms, and the concessions stand. Ticket takers are responsible to seeing that only people who have paid the admission charge enter the theatre.

Coat Check Attendants

Front of House

Coat check attendants will operate the coat check center located in the lobby of the theatre. They will have the opportunity to work directly with patrons, and provide friendly, prompt, and accurate customer service.

Lobby Attendants

Front of House

Lobby attendants greet patrons attending entertainment events. They give door checks to patrons who are temporarily leaving establishments.

Parking Lot Attendants

Front of House

Parking lot attendants regulate parking and traffic in an assigned lot restricting unauthorized vehicles. They must have knowledge of general parking practices and procedures.

Stage Manager

Production/Technical Operations

The stage manager acts as an agent of the producer. In the absence of a stage manager, the producer will assume these responsibilities.

Props Master

Production/Technical Operations

The props master will work closely with the set designer, stage manager, and director in identifying and collecting the properties needed for a production. The props master is responsible for the timely return of all borrowed/rented props.

Master Carpenter

Production/Technical Operations

The master carpenter turns a completed set design into the actual set pieces needed for a show. The set crew assists the master carpenter in constructing and installing set pieces.
